One caveat about the bias tape:
It won't work properly if the guitar top is to have a dark sunburst finish.

Hesh - Sounds like you got the right material. It is what I use on my instruments. Cut the bias ply material longer than the side and dip the material in hot hide glue. Immediately put it in position on the side of the guitar. Use your finger to smooth it out. Folded side of the tape faces the guitar side. Let it dry overnight. The next day, use a brush and brush shellac on the glued bias tape in order to seal it from things that like to eat hide glue. Good luck! |

What Sylvan said. I iron the tape flat first. You can use either hide, yellow, or white LMI glue, applied as Sylvan described. You don't need any cauls, as it lies nice and flat just smoothing it out with your finger. Sealing it with shellac is probably a good idea. Craig S. |

I iron it flat, cut to length, paint a stripe of HHG on the side where I want the tape, and lay it down. Then I go over it with some more glue with the brush, and wipe off the excess with a paper towel. If the edges gome up you can get them to lie down by dampening them with warm water the next day and rubbing. I put the tapes all the way across the side before gluing down the liners, so the liners go over them. Once the liners are on (the tape is thin enough that it does not interfere with the glue line)I sand the tapes very lightly with #320 paper, and shellac them a few times to seal moisture away from the glue. |
